KUOO Celebrates 40 Years

April 02, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– It was 40 years ago today, April 1st, the late Paul Hedberg, the original owner and founder of KUOO, signed the station on the air. An open house commemorating the occasion was held today (Tues.) at the radio station. Hundreds of people toured the station and viewed photos and memorabilia over KUOO’s 40 years of broadcasting in the Iowa Great Lakes.

Listeners were treated to music from 1985, the year the station went on the air, and heard from some of the announcers that were on the air on KUOO over the last 40 years. A ribbon cutting was also held as part of the day’s festivities.

The staff, management and everyone at Community First Broadcasting thanks the community and advertisers for their support over these years and we look forward to the next 40 years and beyond.

Our 40th anniversary celebration will continue in the months to come, including a Class Reunion Party Thursday, May 29th at Captain’s Entertainment Complex in Arnolds Park.
