Kid’s Fishing Clinic Coming Up Wednesday (April 23rd)

April 21, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club will once again hold its annual Kids Fishing Clinic this Wednesday in the Iowa Great Lakes. Club member Terry Thompson…

“It’s going to be at Isthmus Park again. We were asked to move this up by two weeks or maybe even more than that, by our local DNR people because this is a big deal. Pure Fishing corporate office people will be there for this event as well as some of the DNR personnel from Des Moines. They’re anxious to see how their federal excise tax dollars are spent so they’re going to watch to see how this club performs a little bit, so kind of a big deal. It’s open for kids 6 to 15. Registration starts at 4:30 until 5:00 and we’ll have the usual procedure where we have stations where kids will go around and watch a fish demonstration, water safety by our local DNR guys, and then a fish ID by the hatchery staff up there, so pretty interesting. And then to follow that, hopefully the weather permits, they’ll fish for an hour. There will be prizes for the big fish of each species as well as a big fish overall winner. Darin Jones, one of our local guides, is going to provide a half day guided fishing trip for the kid that catches the biggest fish overall. And the other kids with the other species will get a gift certificate for the 1st and 2nd place.”

You can find more information about the event at the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club’s Facebook page.
