Jackson County Trenching Mishap Kills One Man, Seriously Injures Another

(Jackson, Mn.)– A trenching mishap in Jackson county Friday claimed the life of one man and seriously injured another.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called around 3:40 p.m. Friday to a report of a ditch cave-in involving two men near Lakefield. Upon arriving authorities learned one man was partially buried and another was unable to be seen. Emergency crews arrived on the scene and freed both men.

Authorities say one of the victims, 19-year-old Levi Buresch of Lakefield, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim, 52-year-old Byron Buresch of Lakefield, was transported to Sanford Hospital in Jackson. There was no immediate information available on his condition or nature of injuries.

Deputies say the two men were putting in field tile at the time of the mishap.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Lakefield ambulance and paramedics, the Lakefield Fire Department, Lakefield and Jackson Fire Departments and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
