Informational Program Next Month In Iowa Great Lakes Will Focus On Human Trafficking

April 09, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, human trafficking is tied with arms dealing as the second largest criminal industry in the world, generating about $32 billion each year. Stacy Besch of Algona talks about why she has made it her mission to inform Iowans about the dangers of human trafficking in Iowa…

“You know my heart just got heavy as I was learning about it because my eyes became wide open because my perception was wrong too. I always thought it was about abduction but it’s not. And with today’s society with our cell phones and the apps it’s so easy for traffickers to lure people in and then they don’t have to abduct because the number one m-o of today is chipping their victims so they can track them. And so it’s an eye opening presentation that will bring not only so much awareness but hopefully educate people to stave our kids starting at a young age.”

Besch will show a documentary called “Grid Shock” and then lead an in-depth discussion on the subject as it pertains to Iowa. The first showing will be at the Okoboji High School on Monday, May 5th from 2:00 until 4:00 and the second showing will be at the Majestic Pavilion in Arnolds Park from 6:30 to 8:30. Both events are free and open to the public.”
