Historical Organization Expresses Possible Interest In Swing Bridge

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A local organization is expressing possible interest in the old Highway 71 swing bridge.

Assistant Dickinson County Attorney Lonnie Saunders told the board of supervisors Tuesday the county Historical Society has expressed some possible interest in the historic structure. But the organization currently doesn’t have the resources in place to relocate it to museum grounds…a cost estimated at roughly $4,000. Saunders told the supervisors the Historical Society’s board directors wants plenty of time to consider the matter, and that it could be some time this coming spring before they would be ready to make a decision.

Saunders told the supervisors it’s his opinion the county could simply give the bridge to the Historical Society, without advertising it first.

A lakes area businessman, Butch Parks, has also expressed possible interest in the historic bridge.
