First Measurable Snowfall Of Season Likely Saturday

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– The first snowfall of the season is likely the first part of this upcoming weekend.

The National Weather Service says a storm system will eject from the southern Rockies late Friday and move onto the plains during the day Saturday.

Current indications are for 1 to 3 inches of snowfall for the Iowa Great Lakes and points to the north and west, with lesser amounts toward Rock Rapids and Sioux Falls. Moderate accumulations of 3 to 6 inches will be possible to the southeast of the Iowa Great Lakes, along and southeast of a line from Fairmont, Minnesota to Estherville, Emmetsburg and Algona.

Strong wind is likely behind the system late Saturday into Sunday, possibly causing issues with blowing and drifting snow.

Anyone with travel plans this weekend should keep up to date with latest forecasts.
