(Hartley)– The occupants of a house near Hartley are without a home to live in after a fire earlier this week. Hartley Fire Chief Brad Meendering says they were called around 5:00 p.m Wednesday to a house and garage fire at 3137 Tanager Avenue, about three miles west and a little over half a mile north of Hartley. He says smoke could be seen coming from the eves when they arrived. Meenering says they extinguished the blaze and conducted an overhaul. No injuries were reported. The Primghar and Sanborn fire departments assisted. He says the cause of the fire appeared to be sparks from a tractor. Meendering says the house sustained major damage and is not habitable. Firefighters were on the scene about four hours.
During their response to the house fire, the Hartley Fire Department was paged for a second fire near the intersection of 370th Street and Yew Avenue in O’Brien county. Meendering says some CRP ground was on fire, and the flames had spread to county bridge, rendering it unusable. Meendering says a burning fence line left unattended gets the blame for the fire. He says some of the Hartley and Sanborn firefighters left the house and garage fire and joined firefighters from Everly to put out the CRP ground and bridge.
