Federated REA Gearing Up For Annual Kilen Woods Clean Up

(Lakefield, Mn.)– Federated Rural Electric Association will hold their annual cleanup day at Kilen Woods State Park northeast of Lakefield. Andrea Christoffer says it will be going Saturday, May 3rd from 9:00 am until 12 Noon…

“If you like hiking the trails then we have you pick up litter and the branches that have fallen down over the winter. Littler kids can scoop out the fire pits and then that gets dumped into the woods. We also rake the tent sites and the campground area, get those leaves off the sand pads. In addition we often rake the amphitheater area and sometimes we scrape and paint the amphitheater seats because believe it or not, we have weddings out there. Also, sometimes we’re cleaning the picnic shelter or the park office, sweeping up the bugs, that kind of thing. In addition we’ll also sometimes we work on picnic tables whether it’s scraping or painting or building. It just kind of depends on how many people we have and the ages of people and what we match them up to.”

Those planning to participate are asked to sign up ahead of time…

“What they can do is call Federated Rural Electric and then ask for Andrea or just hit extension 2224, otherwise if it’s just easier to send off an email, you can do that as well, and that would go to info@federatedrea.coop.”

Christoffer says people from throughout the region are invited to help out…

“If you like to camp there why not help spruce it up, make it a good place to be. I know the state park is always very appreciative of whatever helping hands we can bring together.”

A lunch consisting of hotdogs, chips and cookies will be served to the volunteers free of charge.
