(Undated)– Healthcare professionals are urging anyone with outdoor plans over the upcoming weekend to take some additional precautions from the heat. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the region from Friday morning through Sunday evening. Actual air temperatures could approach 100 degrees. Factor in the humidity and forecasters say it could feel more like 105 degrees or greater.
Officials say its important to drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and to stay out of the sun in conditions like that. They also urge everyone to check on elderly neighbors and relatives, and to never leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Officials say the temperature in the interior of a vehicle can reach lethal levels in just minutes.
