Estherville City Council Approves Property Acquisition

June 18, 2025

(Estherville)– The Estherville City Council Monday voted to purchase some property at 226 North 1st Street in the city for $3,500. While there are no immediate plans for it, City Administrator Penny Clayton says it makes sense for the city to take ownership of it for now, at least…

“One of the things we’ve talked about specifically is the proximity to the power plant. We still don’t know what potentially is going to happen with the generation study. We just kind of had this opportunity and thought it would be a good idea to acquire it and to hold it until we know for sure what’s going on and how we’re going to proceed in the future, so.”

The council voted unanimously to approve the purchase of the property. City officials say the $3,500 price was arrived at following some negotiations with the current owner.
