(Emmetsburg)– Two Emmetsburg women have been charged with lottery fraud after a three-month investigation.
Emmetsburg police began the investigation in October of last year after getting a report of suspicious activity at the Hometown Convenience Store. Police allege 64-year-old Carol Frederick and 46-year-old Tammy Hasbrouck stole lottery tickets from a store’s dispenser. Police say the thefts were captured by video cameras.
Both women were charged with eight counts of lottery fraud, a class “D” felony; and one count of money laundering…a class “C” folony. In addition, Hasbrouck was charged with two counts of second-degree theft, a class “D” felony. Hasbrouck was charged with two counts of second-degree theft, a class “D” felony. Hasbrouck was jailed on an $85,000 bond. Frederick was jailed on a $75,000 bond.
Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for both women on January 30th.
Police were assisted in the investigation by Iowa Lottery investigators.
