DOT Commission Awards Funds To Groups Looking To Purchase Former IANWRR ROW In Dickinson & Osceola Counties

(Ames)– The Iowa Transportation Commission today (Tues.) approved slightly more than $5.2 million in funding for 11 statewide transportation enhancement projects, including recreational trail projects.

Locally, railbanking of the former Iowa Northwestern Railroad right-of-way between Spirit Lake and Harris was awarded $750,000. The funds will be divied up by the Dickinson County Trails Board and the Osceola County Conservation Board. The money will be earmarked to purchase the former rail segment in the two counties.

The Transportation Enhancement Program was created with federal funds in 1991 to support various trail and bicycle projects, scenic and environmental and historic and archaeological projects.
