(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Museum has a new director. Cole Clawson has been on the job a little more than a week now…
“I’m originally from Texas, went to Iowa State 2015 to 2019; Texas State 2019 to ’21. My major is anthropology and I guess if I could tell anyone anything it’s just been an honor to accept this position. I have a deep love for the area and a deep honor to be able to keep the history of so many families and so many individuals alive. I mean as Mary would tell you Dickinson County Museum is a museum where history lives and so I want to make sure we’re always carrying that mission forward.”
When it comes to that, Clawson says they’re always looking for volunteers…
“We have photo scanning projects ongoing. We have people if they’re interested in their ancestry they can come in and peruse our library. Our volunteers are kind of the, not use the train metaphor but they’re kind of the engine gears of the train, if you will, so.”
Anyone interested in volunteering should just stop by the museum at 1708 Keokuk Avenue. Clawson adds he looks forward to introducing himself to everyone in the community.
Clawson succeeds Mary Dreier in that position who recently retired. She continues to oversee a project to upgrade and install interactive displays in the depot portion of the museum.
