Crop Advantage Series To Be Held Later This Month

(Spirit Lake)– Area farmers are being reminded of the annual Crop Advantage series of meetings being held this month around the region. The meeting for Spirit Lake is scheduled for January 11th at the Dickinson County Community Building. It will begin with registration at 9:30 that morning with the program itself running from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Among the keynote speakers will be Elwynn Taylor, ISU Extension Climinatologist talking about Midwest crop weather for 2011-2012. Others include Alison Robertson, ISU Extension Plant Pathologist; Paul Kassel, ISU Extension Field Agronomist; and various workshops in the afternoon dealing with nematode protectant seed treatments, corn management for high yield, corn and soybean response to soil PH; and weed resistance to glyphosate. Residue removal, corn rootworm management, soybean aphids, grain price outlook and soil erosion effects on crop management will also be discussed.

Advance registration is $35 which includes workshop materials, lunch and refreshments. Registration less than one week before the meeting or at the door is $45. Certified crop advisors can obtain up to five additional CEU credits for an additional fee of $25.
