Commission Seeks Nominations To Iowa Supreme Court

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– The Judicial Nominating Commission is starting the process of selecting a new judge for the Iowa Court of Appeals.

Chief Judge Rosemary Sackett, who’s from Okoboji, is retiring in January due to the mandatory retirement age for Iowa judges, which is 72.

The 15-member commission will accept applications for the bench until October 31st. The board will have 60 days to send a list of nominees to Governor Terry Branstad, who will fill the vacancy.

Branstad appointed Sackett to the Appeals Court when he was Governor in 1983. The position was created when the Legislature increased the size of the court from five to six judges. Sackett was named Chief Judge in 1999.
