(Spencer)– A weekend collision in Clay county involving a car and a semi tractor/trailer has claimed the life of an Ayrshire woman.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2500 mile of Highway 18.
Authorities say 61-year-old Lonna Hess of Ayrshire was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile westbound when she crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound semi tractor/trailer driven by 22-year-old Lucas Risseeuw of Inwood.
Hess sustained fatal injuries in the crash; no injuries were reported to Risseeuw.
$5,000 in damage was estimated to the car driven by Hess; the 1999 Peterbilt semi tractor/trailer driven by Risseeuw sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Spencer Police Department, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office; Dickens Fire and Rescue; Spencer Fire and Rescue; Spencer Hospital paramedics, the Iowa Department of Transportation; Clay County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Fort Dodge Police Department.
Sheriff Randy Krukow says the collision remains under investigation.
