(Okoboji)– City officials in Okoboji say they are well aware of timing issues with the stoplights on Highway 71 through that city and that corrective measures are being taken.
City Administrator Michael Meyers reported at a recent council meeting that as part of the Highway 71 project, the city installed a new traffic detection system, but he says all three intersections continue to experience timing issues with the signals. Most noticeable is the stoplights at the intersection of Highway 71 and Sanborn Avenue. Southbound traffic was backed up at times this (Friday) afternoon from that location through the intersection at Stakeout Road, or McDonalds.
The city council at a recent meeting voted 5-0 to replace detection systems at all three intersections through the city at a total cost of $55,000. Local Option Sales Tax revenue will be used to fund the replacement. No timeframe was given for the installation of the new systems.
