City Officials In Jackson Give Update On Flood Recovery Efforts On The Year Anniversary Of The Disaster

June 20, 2025

(Jackson, Mn.)– The city of Jackson had a special event today (Fri.) in recognition of the historic flooding that took place a year ago in that community. Mayor Marcus Polz gave an update on the city’s recovery efforts and improvements that have been made over the past year…

“We’ve improved our emergency communications through tools like the Jackson Connect App. We’ve updated our emergency response plan to be faster and more coordinated, more effective. We’re also continuing to work through the FEMA application process. Of the five projects submitted, two of them have been finalized and I’m happy to say that we received our first reimbursement check from FEMA for just under $70,000. We’re still awaiting final decisions on the remaining two projects with the best case scenario of receiving up to $704,000 in total reimbursements, 75 percent of that federally and 25 of that funded by the state.”

In addition, Polz says the city of Jackson has received preliminary approval from the state of Minnesota to construct some permanent dikes…

“One near 71 bridge just on the north end of town, and the other over by Albertus Field on the end of First Street. And our engineers are currently working designs and the city is updating our conditional use permit for the flood plain before submitting the final plans to the DNR and while we have additional dike projects in mind, these are going to be our top two priorities for 2025.”

Polz added that repairs and possible replacement of the city’s trail system that also sustained heavy damage are also priorities. He also thanked the residents of Jackson for their patience as well as those who have helped the city in its ongoing recovery operations.
