(Jackson, Mn.)– An errant bird is behind a power outage Monday that affected 617 members of Federated Rural Electric Association.
According to a press release, a bird landed on some equipment at a substation near Heron Lake, causing a large arc, knocking out power to western Jackson county. The incident took place shortly after 5:00 pm.
While some customers were out only a few minutes, officials say the outage was longer for those in Heron Lake, Okabena, Kinbrae and Dundee. Power was fully restored around 7:45 pm.
