Arnolds Park Public Library To Open Next Week In Temporary Location

May 15, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park Public Library plans to open in its temporary location next week. Librarian Kara Rice says they’ll reopen this coming Wednesday, May 21st, at the Lakes Center Mall in Arnolds Park…

“We did run into a couple of issues we had to have taken care of so our opening date was delayed a little bit, but we will be there on the 21st with the doors open and then plan to be fully operational by the 27th.”

If you think moving a household is a chore, Rice says try moving an entire library…

“I thought I had everything mapped out and everything was going to go great and be really, really easy for us, but we did definitely run into a couple of things that we could not plan for, but the staff has been amazing, the community support has been amazing and we’re just really excited to get the shelves moved on Monday and then start getting the books back on the shelves and into our new location. The new location is smaller so we did have to kind of split the collection that we have between a storage facility as well as the temporary location, but our plan is to just keep the shelves stocked with new books for the summer and keep people coming into read.”

In the meantime Rice encourages patrons to just ask if there’s something they can’t find…

“I did go through each of the records for the materials that were put into collections and those have been changed, so if somebody were to search for a book that is in storage it will not show up for them, it will only show up on our end that it’s in storage and then if that’s the case we have great relationships with both the Milford Library as well as Spirit Lake and we kind of have something in place where we will be able to get the book from them to get it to our patrons who are looking for it.”

Rice adds the summer reading programs at the Arnolds Park Library will go on as they have in the past…

“In the past couple of years we have several joint programming opportunities available which will be at the Lakes Arts Center as well as Wildcat Stadium. There will be a community calendar that should be released next week that will have all of the details for people there and then as far as the reading program goes with the Arnolds Park Library, you can come see us at our temporary location, pick up those reading logs, get registered for really fun prizes. In addition we are also offering an adult reading program this year with some really fun opportunities for the adults to get in on the fun as well.”
