(Undated)– The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau and law enforcement agencies across Iowa will be participating in a special enforcement project next week. It’s part of an effort to increase awareness of the state’s “Move Over Law” which has been in effect since 2002. It requires motorists to change lanes or slow down if changing lanes isn’t possible when approaching a vehicle on the shoulder displaying flashing lights.
Penalties for violating the law include a fine of a little more than two hundred dollars and can include suspension of driving privileges from 90 days to a year in cases of property damage, bodily injury or death.
The special enforcement will be taking place June 17th-19th throughout Iowa.
