Miner Joins Select List To Claim Three State Wrestling Titles

It’s been a busy week, in local sports, but Spirit Lake Wrestling fans are still celebrating senior Doug Miner’s performance, last weekend, at the State Wrestling Tournament, in Des Moines. Miner claimed a 1-0 decision over Shadow Leshen, of Albion, in the Class 2A 120 pound title match, and won the State Championship for the third time in his high school career.

That’s Spirit Lake Park coach Andrew Lundgren, whose team also had a third place finisher, at 138 pounds, in Zach Skopec, who pinned Eric Clark, of Assumption Davenport, in 2:46, in Saturday’s consolation final
Miner becomes the 79th wrestler in Iowa history to win the State Title three times in his high school career. He went 162-12 during his time at Spirit Lake.
