Tigers too much for Huskies in Big South championship

The Jackson County Central volleyball team improved despite another sweep at the hands of Marshall during the Big South Conference championship match on Thursday night in Jackson.

The second-ranked AAA Tigers took the 3-0 win by set scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-17 over the fifth-ranked AA Huskies in their second clash in 10 days.

This is the 15th consecutive conference championship for Marshall with at least a share of every Big South title ever starting in 2014. JCC was part of a three-way tie at the top that also included Windom in 2016.

Paylin Sether led the Huskies with 10 kills and also had one ace on 8-of-8 serving and five digs. Kinley VanDeVere set up a team high 12 assists and tied for the team lead with nine digs while adding one ace on 6-of-6 serving.

Braelyn Boogerd co-led JCC with nine digs of her own plus a 5-of-5 night serving. Zoey Hall set up nine assists to go with four kills, three digs, one block, and one ace on 8-of-9 serving. Brielle Tufvesson had six kills, three digs, and one ace on 4-of-5 serving. Mady Wachal went 6-of-6 serving with one ace, one kill, one block, and one dig.

The 20-8 Huskies get a bye to Monday, November 2, as the top South seed in the Section 3AA Tournament. Luverne and Fairmont play on Friday, October 30, for the right to visit JCC.

We have the entire postseason journey on your hometown Huskies station, KKOJ.
