Mavericks mission is to go “All The Way”

The top-ranked Martin County West softball team begins the postseason pursuit of history on Thursday at home.
The 21-1 Mavericks are the top seed in the Section 2A Tournament and intend to be the first MCW team ever to go “All The Way” to the State Tournament.
A doubleheader split with Cleveland provided the only blemish so far for this year’s Mavericks. That helped put MCW at 13-1 in the section, 8-1 in Tomahawk Valley Conference play, and 7-1 at home.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton is the first team looking to knock off the top-ranked Mavericks in the postseason. The Bulldogs are 13-9 overall after a first-round rout of Springfield on Tuesday. JWP has a 4-4 record in the section and a 5-6 mark on the road. This is their first non-losing year since 2019. MCW took the most recent meeting in the 2025 season opener.
The Mavericks pulled the 1-0 upset of section rival United South Central on May 11 to take over the top spot in the latest Class A coaches poll. MCW checks in at #15 just ahead of USC in the most recent Minnesota Top 25 from Strib Varsity.
