Mavericks Softball Team Ends Their Season with Record of 24-3

The Martin County West softball season came to an end on Thursday Night. They lost the first game 3 to 1 and the second game 7 to 1 to defending Class A State Champions, the USC Rebels. Rowan Faber and Lilly Schultz both went 2 for 4 in the first game and were the only Mavericks to get hits. Mariah Anderson went 1 for 4 and scored 2 runs while Alivia Brugger was 2 for 4 with the go-ahead homerun in the top of the 8th inning. Grace Walton was also 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. Maddie Carlson went the distance in the first game for the Mavericks. She gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and collected 5 strikeouts while Anderson gave up one run on four hits and struck out 12 in game 1.

That would set the stage for game 2 with the Rebels pulling out the 7 to 1 victory. Anderson again went the distance in the circle striking out 10 and only allowing 2 walks. Carlson pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Sydney Clow pitched 2 and 2/3rds innings and the Rebels were able to score 4 runs, 4 earned, on 7 hits, one walk and one strikeout. Faber was 1 for 2 with a run scored in game 2 while Ida Rohman was 1 for 3 with the lone RBI for the Mavericks. Bailey Larson also went 1 for 3 in the second game. The Mavericks end their incredible season with a record of 24-3 and a second-place finish in Section 2A. The Rebels move on to the State Tournament which starts on June 2nd and will be played at Caswell Park in Mankato. The championship round for all four classes will be at Jane Sage Cowels Stadium at the U of M on Friday June 5th. 3rd place and Consolation rounds will be at Caswell Park. Congratulations to Emily Schettler, Addy Wohlhuter and Courtney Anderson on their stellar careers at MCW.
