The eighth-ranked Jackson County Central volleyball team survived Redwood Valley in a five-set thriller on the road Tuesday.
The Cardinals started the night with a 26-24 win in the first set. JCC took the next two sets 25-18. The Cardinals dominated 25-11 in the fourth set. The Huskies prevailed 15-13 in the winner-take-all fifth set.
Lincoln Gordon led the JCC attack with 13 kills. Gordon and Mady Wachal each collected six blocks. Gordon also added a pair of ace serves on 6-of-8 serving. Wachal added one ace on 6-of-9 serving plus a pair of digs.
Brielle Tufvesson went 18-of-19 serving with a team-high five aces plus 10 kills, 13 digs, and a pair of blocks. Zoey Hall was a perfect 9-of-9 serving with a pair of aces. She also had a team-high 21 set assists, eight hills, and six digs. Braelyn Boogerd led the Huskies with 22 digs plus a 10-of-12 night serving.
Paylin Sether went 16-of-18 serving with a pair of aces plus 10 digs and six kills. Kinley VanDeVere had 12 digs and 11 set assists to go with a 3-of-3 night serving. Paige Benda also converted a trio of serves while adding five blocks, a dig, and a kill.
The 2-1 Huskies return home to face Worthington on Thursday night.
