The Jackson County Central volleyball team played for the Carolyn Hummel Invitational championship at home on Saturday.
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton captured a state-ranked best-of-three title tilt 2-0 over JCC. The Class A sixth-ranked Knights won by set scores of 25-9 and 25-16 over the eighth-ranked Class AA Huskies.
The Huskies started the day with a pair of sweeps 25-21 and 25-13 over Estherville-Lincoln Central (IA) and New Ulm 25-8 and 25-22 to win Pool A to advance to the Gold bracket. JCC swept Murray County Central 25-23 and 25-18 in the Gold semifinal and finished 3-1 on the day.
The 7-3 Huskies continue the regular season when they visit Windom on Tuesday and we have the match on KKOJ Radio and Explore Live Video.
The Martin County West volleyball team won the Silver bracket at the Carolyn Hummel Invitational in Jackson on Saturday.
MCW started the day with a second-place finish in Pool C. The Mavericks swept St. James Area in the best-of-three format by set scores of 25-14 and 25-10. Murray County Central handed the Mavericks their first loss of the season 25-21 and 26-24 in the other pool match.
MCW bounced back with a sweep of New Ulm and took both sets by scores of 25-19 in the Silver bracket semifinal. The Mavericks swept Adrian/Ellsworth 25-20 and 25-23 to capture the bracket title.
The 10-1 Mavericks still have yet to lose a regular-season match with a visit to winless ML-GHEC-T up next on Tuesday.
