Huskies pluck Cardinals for third straight sweep

The Jackson County Central volleyball team stayed unbeaten in section and conference play with a third consecutive sweep at home against Luverne on Tuesday night.

JCC took set wins of 25-6, 25-23, and 25-17 over the Cardinals.

Huskies head coach Deidre Wierson says Luverne deserved credit for bouncing back and competing hard after JCC dominated the first set.

Zoey Hall led JCC with 12 kills and added nine set assists plus three aces on 11-of-11 serving. Paylin Sether had a team-high 10 digs and six aces on 17-of-19 serving plus five kills and one block. Kinley VanDeVere collected 21 set assists and three digs to go with a 10-of-11 night serving.

Mady Wachal went 11-of-11 serving with three aces plus four kills and one block. Braelyn Boogerd had eight digs and one ace on 7-of-7 serving. Brielle Tufvesson posted eight kills, six digs, and a block. Paige Benda was 2-for-2 serving to go with a pair of digs, one kill, and one block. Lincoln Gorden had five kills, a dig, and a block.

The 11-3 Huskies are 4-0 in Section 3AA on top of the South subsection and 5-0 in the Big South Conference on top of the Gold division.

JCC visits state-ranked New London-Spicer on Thursday for a rematch of last year’s section title match.
