HUSKIES HAVE A DAY AT SHELLY HOTZLER INVITE

The fourth-ranked Jackson County Central softball team won the Shelly Hotzler Invitational tournament on Saturday.
The Huskies went 3-0 on the day with wins over Albert Lea, Glencoe-Silver Lake, and Pipestone.
JCC kept the Tigers winless with a 12-1 victory in five innings.
Kelcie Sillman smacked a three-run home run and tossed 11 strikeouts in the circle. Brielle Mouw struck out the side in the fifth inning. Cora Pauling went 4-for-4 featuring a triple and double with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Bailey Finck had a trio of hits including a pair of doubles and plated a pair of runs.
JCC blanked the Chatfield Gophers 15-0 in three innings.
Finck batted in six runs on three hits including a triple and double. Kinley VanDeVere hit a solo home run among three runs scored. Cora Pauling went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs. Brielle Tufvesson had a pair of hits including a double, plated two runs, and scored twice. Hadley Wachal tossed six strikeouts during a brief one-hit shutout.
JCC beat Pipestone 10-2 for the championship.
Mady Wachal struck out 12 Arrows and allowed just three hits. She helped her own cause with a trio of hits and RBIs while scoring once. Kinley VanDeVere went 3-for-3 featuring a double, plated a pair of runs, and scored twice. Finck had a pair of doubles and scored three times. Tuffvesson batted in a pair of runs and scored once.
JCC collected 38 hits, 13 doubles, a pair of triples, and a pair of home runs on the day. The four Huskies pitchers only allowed six hits and struck out 32 batters in 15 innings of work.
The 17-1 Huskies have won 14 straight games with a trip to state-ranked Mankato East on Monday. The 14-4 Cougars are ranked fourth in the latest coaches poll but had a seven-game winning streak snapped on Saturday. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m.
