The Jackson County Central volleyball team begins the postseason at home against Luverne on Monday night.
The 20-8 Huskies earned the top South seed in Section 3AA and first-round bye with a 7-0 record against section opponents in the regular season. They played for the Big South Conference championship as the Gold division champion after going unbeaten there as well. Monday is the section tournament quarterfinal round and the subsection semifinal round.
The 12-16 Cardinals have a 3-4 record in section play entering Monday. Luverne eliminated Fairmont in four sets on Friday night to earn the right to play JCC. The Huskies swept Luverne at home during the regular season.
JCC is looking to return to the State Tournament for the first time since playing for the championship in 2021. It would be the fourth appearance in program history since winning the 1999 Class AA title.
Redwood Valley is hosting Windom Area in the other South subsection semifinal. The 22-7 Cardinals swept the 20-8 Eagles in “The Nest” on October 13. JCC survived RV on the road in five sets on September 8 and took down Windom in four sets on the road on September 22.
New London-Spicer got a sweep at home on Friday and the Wildcats improved to 23-1 overall. Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg pulled a road upset on Friday and NLS will be hosting the 11-15 Fighting Saints. Paynesville Area is hosting Montevideo in the other North subsection semifinal. The 14-10 Bulldogs got a home sweep and the 10-15 Thunderhawks pulled the upset of #2 North seed Eden Valley-Watkins on Friday. JCC beat the fourth-ranked Wildcats on the road in four sets during a rematch of last year’s section championship on October 1. That is the only Huskies match against a North opponent during the regular season.
All of the section quarterfinals and subsection semifinals are hosted by the high seed on Monday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. The subsection championships happen on Thursday, November 5, with the South at Springfield High School and the North at Willmar High School with a 7:00 p.m. first serve. The Section 3AA Championship is Saturday, November 7, at SMSU in Marshall with first serve at 7:30 p.m.
We will have the entire JCC postseason journey on your hometown Huskies station, KKOJ.
