The Jackson County Central softball team returns to the State Tournament on the hunt for a state championship.
The Huskies begin the Class AA bracket against Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday.
JCC head coach Morgan Christopher says last year’s breakthrough experience helped feed this year’s desire to be “back for more”.
The 25-1 Huskies are riding a 22-game win streak after winning the Section 3AA championship to remain among eight teams with a shot at the title. JCC has only lost to top seed Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 1-0 on April 16. The Huskies are seeking their first state championship since back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005 during their sixth appearance in school history. Bailey Finck has rewritten the JCC record books to help lead the Huskies here. Kinley VanDeVere has made her mark in that book as well. Mady and Hadley Wachal lead what Coach Christopher calls the best pitching staff in the state of Minnesota.
The 21-5 Rebels had to win twice to earn the Section 8AA championship after having state-ranked status all season long. This is the 10th state appearance for the 2023 champions and fourth in five years.
Coach Christopher says the Huskies are focused on playing to JCC expectations on Tuesday.
Our coverage of the quarterfinal round begins at 2:30 with the first pitch at 3:00 and we will have the entire JCC tournament journey on your hometown Huskies station, KKOJ.
