The Jackson County Central softball team is visiting St. Peter as they play for the Big South Conference championship for the second year in a row on Friday.
Huskies head coach Morgan Christopher says creating this opportunity is part of this year’s theme of being “Back For More”.
The 20-1 Huskies have won 17 straight games featuring a 12-0 conference record as the Gold division champion. JCC is ranked second in the latest Class AA coaches poll after only losing to top-ranked unbeaten Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial by one run so far this year.
The Huskies are seeking their first conference title since winning back-to-back Southwest Conference championships in 2005 and 2006. JCC has six titles since 1998 with another three in a row from 2000-02. New Ulm pulled away from JCC during the seventh inning in Jackson for the Big South title last year.
St. Peter is making a third Big South title appearance in the past 10 years after losing to Pipestone in 2016 and 2021. The Saints have only one losing season during that decade.
St. Peter is 14-3 overall this year with a 10-2 conference record. The Saints took the Black division by tiebreaker over Belle Plaine by allowing fewer runs this year. The Saints are receiving votes in the latest Class AAA coaches poll.
JCC has not played St. Peter in the regular season since losing on the road in 2022 but Coach Christopher says they got a glimpse of the Saints earlier this year.
The Huskies are unbeaten on the road and the Saints have yet to lose at home so far this season.
Our coverage on Friday begins at 5:15 with the first pitch at 5:30 p.m. on KKOJ.
