Huskies and Eagles renew rivalry for South title again

The Jackson County Central volleyball team meets Windom Area in the South subsection championship of Section 3AA again on Thursday night.

The fifth-ranked Huskies are 21-8 overall as the top South seed and making their third consecutive appearance in the South title match and section semifinal round. JCC swept Luverne on Monday after a first-round bye.

The Eagles are also 21-8 overall after sweeping Pipestone and Redwood Valley as the #3 South Seed to force this rematch of last year’s subsection championship. JCC took down Windom in four sets in “The Nest” on September 22.

Huskies head coach Deidre Wierson says they scouted their archrival in person at the Carolyn Hummel Invitational three days before that match as well.

The Huskies swept the Eagles for the South championship last year. JCC also beat Windom twice in 2024 featuring a playoff win. The Eagles collected four straight wins over the Huskies before that including their last playoff win in the rivalry series in 2023.

JCC is looking to return to the State Tournament for the first time since playing for the championship in 2021. It would be the fourth appearance in program history since winning the 1999 Class AA title.
Windom is seeking a ninth trip to the State Tournament and first since winning the Class A title in 2008.

Our coverage from Springfield High School on Thursday begins at 6:45 p.m. with the first serve at 7:00 p.m. on KKOJ.

New London-Spicer battles Montevideo for the North subsection championship. The fourth-ranked Wildcats are 24-1 overall after sweeping Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg so far in the postseason. The 11-15 Thunderhawks have pulled upsets of Eden Valley-Watkins in four sets and Paynesville in five sets. They play at Willmar High School on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. NLS is seeking a third straight State Tournament appearance and seventh all-time. Monte has been to State once before in 2006.

Thursday night’s winners advance to the Section 3AA Championship on Saturday, November 7, at SMSU in Marshall with first serve at 7:30 p.m.

We have the entire JCC postseason journey on your hometown Huskies station, KKOJ.
