Crusaders too much for Huskies on Senior Night

The Jackson County Central volleyball team got closer in each set but lost a state-ranked Senior Night showdown to Mayer Lutheran on Thursday.

The Class A #4 Crusaders swept the Class AA eighth-ranked Huskies by set scores of 25-10, 25-17, and 25-21 on the night. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for JCC.

Paylin Sether led the Huskies with five kills and co-led the team with six digs plus a 6-of-6 night serving. Paige Benda had a team-high five blocks to go with three kills and a pair of aces on 4-of-5 serving. Kinley VanDeVere collected a team-high 11 set assists to go with four digs and one ace on 8-of-9 serving. Brielle Tufvesson had three blocks, four kills, six digs, and went 5-of-5 serving. Mady Wachal went 8-of-9 serving with an ace plus four kills and a set assist. Zoey Hall went 6-of-7 serving with seven set assists, two digs, one kill, and one block. Braelyn Boogerd had six digs and went 3-of-4 serving. Lincoln Gorden had a trio of kills plus one dig and one block. Miley VanDeVere and Julia Bidne each had a pair of digs.

The 4-2 Huskies host the Carolyn Hummel Invitational on Saturday.
