The top-ranked Jackson County Central football team turned a brief rally into a record-setting rout against LeSueur-Henderson on Friday night.
The Giants marched down the field on the opening drive to make it 7-0 and take the first lead over JCC since last year’s Prep Bowl.
The Huskies took two plays to respond with the second being a 73-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Kruger to Brody Anderson. The failed two-point conversion kept it 7-6 Giants.
Anderson had a 60-yard punt return to help set up his second TD catch of 23 yards from Kruger and JCC led 12-7 after the first quarter.
Kruger found Gage Johnson for a third TD throw from 46 yards out in the second quarter and made it 18-7 JCC.
Kruger connected with Blaise Rowe from 49 yards away for his fourth TD pass and the 24-7 Huskies lead.
Johnson scored a five-yard rushing touchdown to finish off a drive that worked on the hurry-up offense. Kruger found Kason Farmer for the two-point conversion and JCC led 32-7 at halftime.
Kruger was not done and his first TD pass of the third quarter from 78 yards out tied Anderson for the single-game TD catch school record. Jayzhel Munoz added the extra point and made it 39-7 JCC.
Johnson made a flyball catch on a deflected interception to take the ball back. Anderson set a new school record with his fourth receiving TD from seven yards away. The PAT from Munoz made it 46-7 JCC.
The Giants finally answered with a touchdown pass of their own plus the extra point to make it 46-14 Huskies.
Anderson’s 57-yard catch-and-run tied a state record and finalized a new single-game school record of five receiving touchdowns. Kruger tied Rudy Voss with his seventh TD pass of the game on that same play.
Anderson finished with a program-record 242 yards receiving and scored every time he caught a pass. Kruger finished 13-of-16 with a school-record 405 yards passing and rushed for nine yards as well.
The Giants made a late field goal to make the final score 53-17 Huskies.
JCC extended active winning streaks to 32 games overall and 39 in the regular season.
The Huskies welcome the Luverne Cardinals to Swearingen Field for a showdown between state-ranked 6-0 teams on Wednesday night. That game will be on KKOJ Radio and Explore Live Video.
