The fourth-ranked Jackson County Central softball team extended their current winning streak to seven games with a rivalry doubleheader sweep in Windom on Friday.
Hadley and Mady Wachal combined for a one-hit shutout as JCC beat the Eagles 7-0 in the first game.
Hadley Wachal got the win after seven strikeouts while facing the minimum in the first three innings. Mady Wachal handled the other four innings and tossed six K’s, one walk, and allowed a single in the seventh.
Bailey Finck started the scoring in the first inning with a two-run single that plated Kinley VanDeVere and Cora Pauling for a 2-0 lead. The Huskies added four more in the second. Braelyn Boogerd doubled to score CJ Pauling. Kinley VanDeVere stole home as part of her trio of stolen bases. Cora Pauling stole three bases as well. Mady Wachal brought home Cora Pauling with an RBI single. Mady Wachal scored on an error after a single by Finck and the lead grew to 6-0 JCC. Julia Bidne scored on an error in the fifth to make the final score.
VanDeVere became the new career record holder for stolen bases during the first game. She has 69 stolen bases and counting as a freshman. She passed Alyssa Honnette who stole 66 bases from 1997-2000.
Finck became the new career record holder for RBIs as well. The senior now has 112 and counting. She passed Hatty Rossow who brought in 107 runs from 2001-2005.
Finck flexed her power during the 7-1 Huskies nightcap victory.
She started the scoring with an RBI single to bring Kinley VanDeVere home. Hadley Wachal produced a pair of runs with a single that plated Cora Pauling and Finck. Finck sent a three-run homer over the right field fence in the third that also scored Kinley VanDeVere and Cora Pauling again. The Eagles got their only run in the top of the sixth. Miley VanDeVere brought Clara Brinks home to respond and make the final score. Kinley VanDeVere and Cora Pauling each stole another pair of bases for five each on the day.
Kelcie Sillman allowed the earned run and scattered eight hits to go with seven strikeouts and three walks.
The 10-1 Huskies host St. James on Monday and visit the Saints on Tuesday.
