CUBS BEAT LAKERS IN SEASON OPENER

The Heron Lake Lakers dropped the season opener at home against the Worthington Cubs on Sunday.
The Cubs broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning and added another trio in the fourth. The Lakers scored once on an error during their final stand in the seventh.
Jackson Joyce had a pair of hits for the Lakers. Matthew Voehl had one hit. He also made a diving catch at third base that started a triple play. Joe Walinga scored the Lakers run.
Logan Knutson took the loss on the mound after tossing four strikeouts but allowing four runs with one of them earned on seven hits. Matthew Voehl dealt a pair of strikeouts and walks while surrendering a pair of hits.
The 0-1 Lakers host the Jackson Bulls for their First Nite League opener next Sunday.
