SOAR Raptor Center at The Spencer Public Library

The Spencer Public Library is excited to have a few visiting birds. The S.O.A.R. Raptor Center will be at the Library on October 17, 2:00 PM. They will bring 2 to 3 raptors with them and talk about the uniqueness of the birds. Raptors are birds of prey that actively hunt, and feed on, other vertebrates. They included owls, eagles, falcons, kestrels, hawks and many more.

S.O.A.R. Raptor Center is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1999 in Manning, Iowa. They are dedicated to saving our avian resources through raptor rehabilitation, education, and research.  They provide care for well over 300 birds each year that have been injured or orphaned, primarily from western Iowa. They provide educational programs with non-releasable birds of prey throughout Iowa and they collect data to help with ongoing research to improve rehab techniques, prevent future mortality, and to detect threats to wildlife populations.

“This is an all ages program and it is free to the public. We decided to have S.O.A.R. at the library when kids were home from school. I think this will be a really fun way to spend their time,” says Librarian Robin Munson.
