MILLERS BAY ECOTOURISM DAY 2022

The Millers Bay Conservancy and the Iowa Lakeside Laboratory are partnering to offer free activities throughout the day in western Millers Bay to promote ECOTOURISM: “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment…and involves interpretation and education” (Int’l Ecotourism Society).

① “TRY PADDLEBOARDING (SUP)!“

• Sessions at 10am, 11am, and Noon
• SUP and paddle provided! (Bring your own Coast Guard-approved life jacket.)
• Minimum age: 10 years old
• 3-5 participants per session
• Same-day on-site registration only, at Lakeside Lab*

② “TRY KAYAKING!”

• Sessions at 1:00pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm
• Kayak and paddle provided! (Bring your own Coast Guard- approved life jacket.)
• Minimum age: 10 years old
• Up to 5 participants per session
• Same-day on-site registration only, at Lakeside Lab*
• Taught by a certified ACA Level 2 kayaking instructor, with CPR certification

③ “DISCOVER SCUBA DIVING!“

• Presentations at 10:30am, Noon and 1:30pm
• Learn about scuba diving in the Iowa Great Lakes: lessons and certification, equipment and air, prime diving locations, notable underwater discoveries, local opportunities to “do good work” through diving, underwater photography and videography, and connecting with the thriving local diving community.
• All ages welcome
• Same-day on-site registration only, at Lakeside Lab*

④ “NATURE TOURS BY KAYAK!“

• Tours at 2:30pm and 4:30pm
• Iowa Lakeside Laboratory staff will guide educational kayak tours on the aquatic habitats and wildlife that inhabit Millers Bay
• Paddle up to Lakeside Lab’s North dock to tour in your own kayak or use a Lakeside Lab kayak! (Bring your own Coast Guard-approved life jacket.)
• Minimum age: 10 years old
• Up to 12 participants per session
• Same-day on-site registration only, at Lakeside Lab*

ATTENTION ALL “PADDLERS” & DIVERS:  Please come anytime on Sunday August 7th to kayak, canoe, SUP or scuba dive in far western Millers Bay or in Little Millers Bay in observance of Millers Bay Ecotourism Day and as a visible show of support for Ecotourism!
