The Gold Star Ride Foundation, an American 501c3 non-profit
corporation, will host for the 5th year in a row, a LAF Ride to raise money and awareness for Gold Star Families and will be honoring several Gold Star Families along the way.
Stella Huso, the oldest Gold Star Mom in the country and probably in history (she‟s 105 ½ years old) will probably be part of the kickoff in Burnsville. Her son Wayde was killed in Vietnam in 1969.
The Ride this year is dedicated to a Gold Star Family in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, about 125 miles away. They became Gold Stars on June 4, 2021, when their hero, Eric-John, died.
Three and a half weeks later, on June 29th, another family, from Houston, Texas, also became Gold Stars when their hero, Armando, died. Because of the close proximity of their Gold Stars, the two families became friends, but have never met.
That changes this year. That Houston family will be flown in to Minnesota to drive the support vehicle for the Ride. It promises to be a very special day! And we‟re riding on Armando‟s „angelversary.‟
Gold Star Families are the immediate family members of anyone killed in the military – the widows and orphans, as Abraham Lincoln put it in his second inaugural address. “If I would have been killed while serving in the Navy,” Anthony Price says, “I‟d want someone to finish the work I had started with my family.” That‟s exactly what the Gold Star Ride Foundation
does. Price is the executive director of the organization.
