Okoboji, Spirit Lake Park Boys Claim Conference Track Titles

The Boys Track teams from Okoboji and Spirit Lake Park are both conference champions after each team won its respective meet yesterday. 

The Spirit Lake Park boys won their fourth straight Lakes Conference title, as they edged LeMars, in team points, by One, 116-115.  The Spencer boys took 3rd with 78 points, followed by Storm Lake with 65 and Emmetsburg in 5th place with 59 points. 

The Indians’ Will Norris and Mark Norland were the top two finishers in the 1600 meter run.  Norris also took first in the 3200 meters. 

Emmetsburg’s Cody Henderson was the top finisher in the 110 meter hurdles, Spirit Lake’s Tyler Peterson was the second place finisher.

Spencer did not win any events but got 2nd place efforts from Ryan Bauermeister in the 3200, Cody Mowery in the 400 hurdles and the shuttle hurdle and 4×800 team also took 2nd place finishes 

The Indians’ distance medley relay team of Cody Poock, Bryson McCabe, Caleb Jennings, and Will Norris placed first.  Poock also had the top throw in the shot put.

The top two finishers in each event receive All-Conference honors.

As for the Okoboji Boys, they totaled 145 team points.  The next closest Siouxland Conference team was West Lyon with 85.5. 

The Pioneers’ Jordan Hanna took first in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  Dalton Syverson jumped 6’6 to take first in the high jump, he placed second in the 110 meter hurdles. 

Okkoboji’s 1600 and 4×800 relay teams both took first.  Second place finishers, for the Pioneers, included Jacob Sauter, in the shot put; Austin Kolegraff, in the discus; Kolby Kraninger, in the 3200 meter run;  Chris Albright, in both the 400 meter dash and the 400 meter low hurdles; and Joe Hilsabeck in the 800 meter run.

Spencer captured the Lakes Conference girls title with 173 points, 30 better than HWC with 143.  The Spirit Lake Park Girls were third with 111 points, ELC finished 5th with 22 points and Emmetsburg and Storm Lake were tied for 7th with 11 points. 

Spencer received great performances from Taylor Glover and Ali Meister.  Meister won the long jump, high jump, 100 hurdles and finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash.  Glover won the 400 hurdles and was 2nd in the 400 dash and anchored the 2nd place 4×400 team

Dondi Schmidt was a first place finisher, for the Indians, in the 1500 meter run.  Cierra Guerrero of Spencer finished 2nd.  Cierra did win the 3000 meters. 

Emma Dau took second in the long jump.  The 4×800 meter relay team of Schmidt, Dau, Taylor Sieperda, and Mikey Heikens also placed second. 

Heikens was second in the 800 meter run.  Jenna McCoy finished second in the 100 meter hurdles. 

The Indians got second place finishes from two more relay teams.  They were the distance medley team of Dau, Schmidt, Miranda Brueggeman, and Kendra Stokke; and also the Suttle Hurdle team of Brueggeman, Stokke, McCoy, and Kaela Delperdang.  

The Okoboji Girls were sixth in the Siouxland Conference.  Olivia Albright took first the 400 meter low hurdles.  Darby Jones was second in the high jump.
