Okoboji, Spirit Lake Send Teams To Special Olympics in Ames (RESULTS)

The Iowa Special Olympics start today, at the Iowa State University Campus, in Ames.

 

Vierkant says this event is big

 

That’s Spirit Lake resident, Nancy Vierkant, whose daughter, Megan, will be in competition today. Teams from Spirit Lake and Okoboji will both be in competition.

Spirit Lake Competitors:

Maggie Bramhall – softball throw Gold Medal with a throw of 9M

Brendon Grotjohn – 50 meter dash

Jayden Sorensen- 50 meter dash Silver Medal

Michelle Jermland-50 meter dash Gold Medal

Blainne Stone- 5th place in 1K cycling, 200 meter dash, 250 M Cycling Gold Medal in a time of 35.78

Megan Vierkant – 250 meter cycling, Gold Medal in 1K cycling, standing long jump Gold Medal with a jump of .87 M


Okoboji competitors:


Brandon Lamb – 50 meter dash 5th Place

Joey Jensen – 50 meter dash 1st Place

Riley Poss – Javelin throw 2nd Place

Reese Roth – Javelin throw 1st Place


Katrina Carpenter – 50 meter dash 1st Place


Jackson Fisher – Javelin throw


Matt Ellrich – softball throw 1st Place


Evan Bisenius – softball throw 2nd Place


Ashton Hesseltine – softball throw 3rd Place


Cameron Fairchild – standing long jump 2nd Place


Emma Marlow – 50 meter dash 7th Place

The Iowa Special Olympics offers 23 Olympic-style sports to nearly 11,000 athletes, and features 1,400 coaches and 2,000 volunteers.
