Class 1A Boys Individual State Tennis Competition in Waterloo:
On the singles side, Spirit Lake senior Brandon Stoll defeated Michael Schemm a senior from Pella in the 1st round by the scores of 6-3,2-6,7-6. In the quarterfinals, Brandon lost 6-3,6-2 to Pete Walker of Red Oak. With that loss, he faced Tom Runde of Dubuque Wahlert in the Consolation Second Round and lost 6-1,6-1 to end his state tournament
On the doubles side, Spencer duo Michael Gabhart and Jordan Plueger defeated their first round oponent from Pella 6-1,4-6,6-4. In the qtrs, they also were victorious by the scores of 6-0,6-3 over a team from Decorah. In the semifinals Saturday morning, the lost to a duo from Davenport Assumption 6-4,6-3. This put them into the 3rd place match against a team from Keokuk and they would win 6-1,6-7(5),1-0(8). The Spencer team of Jordan Plueger and Michael Gabhart finish 3rd Place at state!
