Burrell Belts HR In ELC Win Over Spirit Lake Baseball

The Spirit Lake Baseball team suffered its fourth conference loss of the season, Wednesday night, as the Indians were beaten, 4-3, by Estherville-Lincoln Central. ELC led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the third, when Matt Burrell belted a towering two-run home run over the left field fence, to extend the Midget lead to 4-1. That’s how the score remained until the top of the seventh when Midget starting pitcher Billy Snyder walked two out of Spirit Lakes first three batters, only to be replaced on the mound by Matt Burrell.  Burrell then game up a single to Paul Brown, and the bases were loaded with one out and Nick Amundson at the plate.  Amundson flew out to right field, but as the base runners tagged up, the Midgets would commit two errors and Spirit Lake scored two runs.  Burrell then pitched a strike out for the third out of the inning, as the Midgets improve to 8-11.  They’re on the road against Central Lyon, tonight. The Indians, who are now 12-4,  are home against Storm Lake, tomorrow.  Spirit Lake beat the Tornadoes, 7-6, on June 10 in Storm Lake.
