Class 2A Postseason Baseball

Class 2A District 2

In Spirit Lake on Saturday night, Emmetsburg scored early and often in a 7 – 1 win over Okoboji to advance.  Emmetsburg scored in every inning but the 5th and 7th innings.  They scored 7 runs on 8 hits and were led by Joe Jackson’s 3 – 4 night with 2 RBI’s and Greg Wesley was 2 – 5 with 2 RBI’s.  Okoboji would score 1 run in the 5th inning and overall they were held to just 5 hits.  They were led by Alex Heller as he went 2 – 2 and Matt Eckard was 1 – 3 with the team’s lone RBI.

The winning pitcher was Jake Jackson going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2.  The losing pitcher was Houston Hawkins going 3 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 4 hits.  Emmetsburg improves to 12 – 13 and will be at Spirit Lake on Tuesday.  Okoboji finishes their season at 8 – 15 and lose 4 seniors in Weston Burgeson, Dallas Drexler, Keaton Jones and Dalton Syverson.

In the other 2A district 2 matchup, Sioux Central beat Estherville 2 – 0 and will take on North Union on Tuesday.

Class 2A District 1

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored six runs in the second inning and three in the third to build a solid lead and pick up an 11-4 win over Sheldon in Sioux Center on Saturday afternoon in Class 2A District 1 post season baseball. Sheldon actually led 2-1 before the H-M-S offense got hot.
 
The Hawks had 11 hits in the contest and were led by Hunter Orthmann’s 3-for-4 performance at the plate. The pre-freshman first baseman had two RBI and two runs scored. Jordan Japenga went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Casey Dorhout went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Ryan Flynn got the win for H-M-S. He pitched all seven innings, giving 7up four runs (all earned) on five hits. He struck out nine and walked three.

The Hawks are 7-17 and now play Sioux Center back on the Warriors’ diamond on Tuesday night at 7pm. Sheldon’s season ends at 9-14. The Orabs offense was led by a 2-for-2 performance by Grant Weaver. He had an RBI as well. Mitch Jensen took the loss, pitching the first 6 and 1/3 innings. He gave up all 11 runs (8 earned). He struck out two and walked none.

Also in 2A District 1, Unity Christian beat South O’Brien 10 – 6 and will now take on Hull Western Christian.
