Emmetsburg Loses Homecoming Football Game

It was homecoming in Emmetsburg on Friday night and it was a defensive struggle for both teams as both traded possessions in the first drives of the game.  Emmetsburg finally got on board with 4:52 left in the 1st quarter on 4th and 5; Zach Anderson tossed a 10 yard touchdown pass to Austin Krause.  The E’hawks would miss the extra point and go up by the score of 6 – 0.  It would stay that way until 5:33 in the 3rd quarter when Emmetsburg scored on a 7 yard TD run by Greg Wesley.  Emmetsburg would go for 2 and miss it and at that point up 12 – 0 after 3.  In the 4th, Manson got the ball around the 50 and 2 plays later Coy Snell rattled off 46 yards for the touchdown and after the extra point the score was 12 – 7 with 10:34 to play.  A couple more back and forth drives for both teams resulted in no points, until Manson scored on a trick play with 1:51 left to go.  Quarterback Alex Bush threw to wideout Brayden Moser in the back field and he then let go a 44 yard pass to wide open Payton Rice for the touchdown to put Manson up 13 – 12.  The cougars would go for 2 and miss it.  Emmetsburg had 1:44 to go with 3 timeouts at their own 38 yard line after the kickoff.  Anderson would complete a 22 yard pass to Austin Krause that put the E’hawks down to the Manson 40.  Then a few runs later Greg Wesley would take it to the 7 yard line with 1 minute to go.  After 3 straight running plays and 3 called timeouts, the E’hawks would line up for a 20 yard kick from Jake Miller and the kick would go just wide left.  Manson took over with 30 seconds to go and would take a knee to seal the victory.

Manson NW Webster was held to 184 yards of offense led by Coy Snell and his 111 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.  Emmetsburg had 232 yards of offense and had 81 yards from Greg Wesley and 1 touchdown.  Both teams turned it over twice.  Manson NW Webster improves to 4 – 1 while Emmetsburg falls to 2 – 3 and will be at Hull Western Christian next Friday, a game you can hear on Y 100 starting at 7 PM.
