Friday night in Boyden, the Spirit Lake softball team was down to their last out of the season, trailing Boyden Hull Rock Valley 2-1 in the bottom of the 7th in a Class 3A regional semifinal. Bailee Newman hit a 2 out double to drive in Kelsey Delperdang from 3rd to tie the game, then Sophomore Caitlyn Roberts hit a 2-2 pitch to left to score Newman from 3rd as Spirit Lake topped 7th ranked BH/RV 3-2. Newman would have 2 rbi’s on the night, including a solo homerun to lead off the game in the first. Defensively, the Indians played error free ball, while the Nighthhawks committed 3 errors. For the game, Bailee Newman was 3-4, Caitlyn Roberts game winner was her first hit of the night as she went 1-4. Newman was also the winning pitcher, striking out 10 and walking just 1. Spirit Lake advances to the 3A region 1 final. They face Osage Monday night, who beat Garner Hayfield Ventura 7-1 in their regional semifinal.
