ILCC Hires New Women’s Soccer Coach

Iowa
Lakes Community College Director of Athletics Troy Larson has announced the
hiring of Kevin Mahlan as the new Head Women’s Soccer
Coach.

A
Lindenhurst, N.Y., native, Mahlan received his Associates Degree in
Criminal Justice from Farmingdale University in 1975.  He chose to continue his
education in 1996, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from
LaSalle University.  Again in 2010 he took to the books completing his Master’s
Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from American College of Education.  He is
currently enrolled at Northcentral University working towards his
Doctorate Degree in Sports Management.

Mahlan’s
coaching career began as the Head Men’s Soccer coach for Tri County Technical
College in South Carolina.  Before joining the Laker coaching staff, he also
served as a head competitive boy’s and girl’s teams coach in Florida for age
groups under 7 to under 19, as well as head high school boys soccer coach in
Tavares, Fla., for six years; Haines City, Fla., for two years; Winter Haven,
Fla., for four years; and Berea, S.C., for two years.

“We
are thrilled to have Kevin as our Head Women’s Soccer Coach.  He brings a wealth
of experience coaching soccer at all levels,” Larson stated.  “He is passionate
about the sport and cares deeply for student athletes.  I’m anxious to see him
coach this year’s team and excited about the future of our women’s
program.”

Mahlan’s
plan is to continue the program’s widely recognized progress to be National
Contenders for years to come.  In the past season, the Laker Women were ranked
in the top 20 for five weeks.

“I
am thankful to have the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of young
women, who have seen success both on and off the pitch,” Mahlan said.  “My hope
for the program is that every student athlete develops a stronger passion for
the game, with experiences that will help shape them for their lifelong
journey.”
