(Estherville)– A major thoroughfare through Estherville will see significant improvements in coming years.
Engineers and officials with the Iowa Department of Transportation Monday evening held an informational open house on the plans for Central Avenue, or Iowa Highway 9, from the Des Moines River Bridge to the east city limits, a span of some two and-a-half miles. An engineer on the project says it’s being split up into phases, with construction being spread out over multiple years…
“It will not be all torn up at the same time. We’re going to break it up into different stages to help expedite construction and minimize the amount of disruption to residents and businesses.”
Plans call for a bidletting in the fall of 2027 with construction on the first phase not starting until the spring of 2028. Construction on the final phase is scheduled for 2031. An informational meeting for utility providers along Central Avenue will be held later this month…
“So right now we have a kick off meeting scheduled for the 12th of November with all of the project utilities along the corridor, everybody’s been invited to that. We provide our plans to all of the utility companies. The plan is for the utility companies to come up with a work plan for utilities that do not meet the D.O.T’s requirements for depth, and then we will review those plans and make sure there won’t be a conflict with those improvements. That is the tentative plan at this point.”
In addition to new pavement, underground infrastructure along the corridor will also be upgraded.
