Terril Officials Hope New Additive Will Help Improve Water Quality

October 27, 2026

(Terril)– A new process is being implemented in Terril as the city continues to struggle with the quality of its drinking water. The city council voted unanimously Monday evening to implement what’s known as a “poly orthophosphate blend” to improve the quality of the drinking water and extend the life of the city’s water mains.

Water Superintendent Brian Klein told the council it will also help control scale and corrosion while also reducing lead and copper releases.

Klein says adding the blend will likely result in some discoloration for a few months, adding it should be minimized by flushing hydrants.

He says the blend should also help rid the system of any residual iron or manganese.
